Membrane Material M230 is a cellulose diacetate polymer that is used to manufacture organic membranes that perform separations within both liquid and gas.
Membrane Material M230 is a cellulose diacetate polymer with an acetyl content of 38.9 wt%. M230 may be used neat or blended with other Eastman Membrane Material grades to achieve desired performance.
Membrane Material M230 is preferred as a raw material to manufacture hollow-fiber and spiral-wound cellulose acetate membranes used for various liquid-based separation processes, including beverage clarification, biomolecule purification, wastewater treatment, and desalination. Also, cellulose acetates generally have an inherent selectivity for CO2 and CH4 gas. For this reason, cellulose acetates like Membrane Material M230 are leading material choices for creating cellulose acetate membranes used to separate natural gas.
Membrane Material M230 is more hydrophilic than other common membrane materials, such as PVDF. It may be used in conjunction with a more hydrophobic membrane polymer like PVDF to provide modification, creating a more hydrophilic membrane surface. Due to being highly hydrophilic, membranes made with M230 make better contact with aqueous feed streams and have a lower risk of fouling. Membrane Material M230 also has excellent oxidant resistance and is stable in exposure to greater than 10^4 ppm hours of chlorine. Thus, membranes manufactured with M230 can be cleaned using chlorine while minimizing the risk of damage to the membrane.
