CA-398-6 is a low molecular weight cellulose acetate polymer. It is used in the manufacture of membranes and as a film former in lacquers and coatings.
CA-398-6 is a low viscosity solutions grade cellulose acetate polymer. It is commonly used as the main film former in paper, paperboard, and wood coatings. Coatings formulated with CA-398-6 offer superior chemical, heat, and UV resistance and will outperform coatings made from nitrocellulose. CA-398-6 has been approved by the FDA to be used in paper and paper board coatings that will come into contact with food. Additionally, CA-398-6 can be cast into durable films that are useful as tape backing. Films made from CA-398-6 are strong, clear, and chemically resistant making them an ideal polymer for membrane manufacturing. Membranes composed of cellulose acetate like CA-398-6 have excellent resistance to fouling and can be cleaned using chlorine, acids, and bases. This makes cellulose acetate membranes ideal for filtration operations with a high risk of membrane fouling like dairy processing, beverage clarification, waste water treatment, and desalination. In addition, cellulose acetate membranes have a natural ability to separate CO2 from CH4. This is why cellulose acetate is the most commonly used membrane material for spiral wound and hollow fiber membranes for natural gas filtration.
