CAB-381-0.1 is a low molecular weight cellulose acetate butyrate polymer. It is used as a leveling aid in solvent based and UV curable inks and coatings.
CAB-381-0.1 is the lowest molecular weight cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) in the 381 series. CAB-381-0.1 was designed for applications where low viscosity at relatively high solids content is needed. The moderate butyrate content of CAB-381-0.1 makes it compatible with a broad range of solvents, resins, and plasticizers making it a useful film former or additive in a wide range coatings and inks applications. CAB-381-0.1 allow formulators to improve performance, enhance appearance, and increase productivity in coating and ink applications. Coatings made from CAB-381-0.1 offer excellent leveling, high gloss, superior UV resistance, and faster dry times. CAB-381-0.1 is also used as an additive in gravure inks to improve heat resistance, grease resistance, and UV stability. CAB-381-0.1 is soluble in monomers commonly used for UV curable coatings and inks including HDDA, TMPTA, DPGDA, and TPGDA. It is compatible with most UV curable resins and helps to improve leveling and prevent shrinkage of coatings and inks upon cure . When used in UV curable formulations it is recommended to make a masterbatch solution of monomer and CAB-381-0.1 to then let down into the formulation. CAB-381-0.1 is also used as film former in nail polish. Nail polish formulated with CAB-381-0.1 as the primary film former offer a fast drying rate due to the quick solvent release of the polymer. When compared to nitrocellulose, CAB-381-0.1 offer far superior UV durability and yellowing resistance leading to nail polish formulations that last longer and require less reapplication.
