CAB-551-0.2 is a cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) resin with excellent compatibility. It is primarily a flow and leveling aid used in solvent-based and UV-curable coatings and inks.
CAB-551-0.2 is a cellulose acetate butyrate polymer with very high butyrate content and relatively low molecular weight. It can be used as a film former and additive in coating and ink applications to improve metallic pigment orientation, gloss, wetting, leveling, and durability. The high butyrate content of CAB-551-0.2 provides improved flexibility in coatings and makes it widely soluble in a range of organic solvents and monomers. CAB-551-0.2 is also compatible with a wide variety of resins and pigments. Coatings and inks formulated with CAB-551-0.2 have increased resistance to yellowing from UV exposure and faster solvent release.
CAB-551-0.2 is soluble in common acrylic monomers and compatible with many UV-curable resins used in reactive and UV-curable formulations. When formulated into UV-curable coatings, CAB-551-0.2 helps prevent shrinkage of the coating due to cross-linking that occurs during rapid curing.
CAB-551-0.2 can be used by pultruders to enable higher pultrusion speed and prevent internal and external cracking. When CAB-551-0.2 is used in nail polish and protective nail coatings as a film former, it provides excellent sag resistance, gloss, color retention, and fast drying speeds.
