CA-398-10 is a medium molecular weight cellulose acetate used as a film former in lacquers. It is also used in the manufacture of organic membranes.
CA-398-10 is a solution grade cellulose acetate with medium molecular weight. It is commonly used as a film forming resin or modifying resin in coatings applications that require excellent strength, chemical resistance, and UV stability. Coatings based on CA-398-10 are more durable than coatings based on nitrocellulose and will resist yellowing when exposed to heat and sunlight. Films of CA-398-10 are used in consumer electronics as protective barriers and also for the backing of pressure sensitive adhesive tapes. CA-398-10 will form rigid films that are durable with excellent UV and heat stability. These films can be made flexible with the use of common plasticizers. CA-398-10 is available as a powder and should be let down into solvent prior to addition to a formulation. In addition to it's use in lacquers, CA-398-10 is used to manufacture organic membranes for filtration with a high risk of fouling like beverage clarifications, waster water treatment, and desalination. Membranes made from CA-398-10 have remarkable resistance to fouling and can withstand harsh cleaning with acids, bases, and chlorine. Cellulose acetate membranes also have an inherent selectivity to CH4 and CO2 that make them ideal for natural gas filtration.
