Membrane Material M210 is a cellulose diacetate polymer with a molecular weight of 40,000 g/mol. It is a raw material used to manufacture cellulose acetate membranes for separations in gas or liquid.
Membrane Material M210 is a cellulose diacetate polymer of medium viscosity and molecular weight. It features a molecular weight of 40,000 g/mol and may be used neat or blended with other Eastman Membrane Material grades.
Membrane Material M210 is typically used to manufacture cellulose acetate membrane media present in hollow fiber and spiral wound modules used for beverage clarification, biomolecule purification, wastewater treatment, and desalination. Cellulose acetates, including Membrane Material M210, have an inherent selectivity for CO2 and CH4 gas. As such, Membrane Material M210 is ideal for manufacturing cellulose acetate membranes for natural gas separations.
Membrane Material M210 is highly hydrophilic. It may be used with more hydrophobic membrane polymers, such as PVDF, to increase hydrophilicity on the membrane surface. Owing to its hydrophilicity, membranes made with M210 have a lower risk of fouling. Membrane Material M210 also has excellent oxidant resistance and exhibits outstanding stability when exposed to more than 104 ppm-hours of chlorine. This makes membranes manufactured using M210 easier to regenerate using chlorine and minimizes the risk of damaging the membrane.
Specific gravity: 1.31 g/cm3
Moisture content: 1.5% max
Hydroxyl content: 3.5 wt%
Acetyl content: 38.9 wt%
Chlorine tolerance >104 ppm-hours
Molecular weight (average): 75,000
Tg: 184°C
Low membrane service life due to high fouling rates during desalination, wastewater treatment, dairy filtration, and natural gas separations
High raw material costs for membranes
Loss of membrane integrity through incompatibility with cleaning procedures using oxidants
Eastman Membrane Material M210 is the raw material of choice to manufacture the following membrane filtration technologies:
Microfiltration (MF) membrane filters
Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane filters
Nanofiltration (NF) membranes
Reverse osmosis (RO) membranes
Forward osmosis (FO) membranes
Natural gas separation membranes
