Dow SURECEL™ 488 is an all-acrylic processing aid for foamed PVC applications. SURECEL™ 488 is an additive with an ultra-high molecular weight that improves extrusion by offering excellent foam expansion, density control, and uniform cell structure.
Dow SURECEL™ 488 processing aid offers drop-in replacement with similar fusion characteristics to comparable acrylic processing aids but at a lower level. Dow SURECEL™ 488 is also 50% more efficient but does not affect the melt viscosity for foamed PVC masterbatches. As a processing aid additive, it has an ultra-high molecular weight with excellent foam expansion, density control, and uniform cell structure to assist with reduced loading levels. SURECEL™ 488 processing aid additives help with extrusion efficiency by assisting calibrated profile processing where maximum calibrator filling is required. Free PVC foam sheet processing will require a lower additive loading rate, and the suggested usage rate, depending on the application, can be in the range of 2.0–7.0 phr. SURECEL™ 488 processing aid offers optimized loadings of acrylic while maintaining similar melt processing compared to Dow PARALOID™ K-445 and SURECEL™ 467. In further comparison, SURECEL™ 488 experienced similar fusion characteristics with higher efficiency without affecting melt viscosity.
