EPOLENE® C-15 is a highly branched polyethylene wax used as a masterbatch additive to increase color strength and reduce torque and die pressure. It is also used as a base polymer in hot-melt coatings and as a wax modifier for candles.
EPOLENE® C-15 is a medium–molecular weight, highly branched, low-density polyethylene (LDPE) polymer. The low density and softening point of EPOLENE® C-15 make it an excellent additive for color concentrates and additive masterbatches, where it provides improved pigment dispersion and processing advantages. It improves the dispersion of pigments to enhance color strength and reduces torque and die pressures associated with manufacturing. It also improves the dispersion of mineral fillers and calcium carbonate in masterbatches, which similarly reduces pressure and energy costs during compounding. These same properties make it a useful, low-cost processing aid for rubber compounding.
EPOLENE® C-15 may also be used as a base polymer in hot-melt coatings for paper and packaging materials, where it improves high gloss and grease resistance and reduces moisture vapor transmission. It has also been used as a wax additive to increase hardness, color strength, burn times, and opacity in candles. EPOLENE® C-15 has been used to make wax molds for lost wax casting applications.
