Capstone™ FS-65
Capstone™ FS-65 is a water-soluble, nonionic fluorosurfactant used to improve wetting and leveling of water-based paints, inks, and cleaners.
Capstone™ FS-65 is a water-soluble, VOC-free, nonionic fluorosurfactant. It provides exceptionally low surface tension to aqueous solutions when used at a very low rate (0.005-0.1% actives depending on application). Capstone™ FS-65 is designed to remain nonionic in both acidic and basic system. It is also compatible with resins of any ionic class making Capstone™ FS-65 well suited as a wetting and leveling additive in most water-based formulations. Capstone™ FS-65 meets the criteria for biodegradability set by OECD 301B or 67/548/EEC Annex V.C. 4-C and is the environmentally preferred grade of fluorosurfactant for coatings, inks, cleaning solutions, and various other applications. Capstone™ FS-65 is available commercially as a 25% solids solution that can be easily diluted to working concentrations with water.
Note: All samples and purchases of Capstone for new projects and applications must first be evaluated for approval by ChemPoint and Chemours.

Features & Benefits
VOC-free Water-soluble Anti-blocking Oil repellency Low foaming Wetting and enhanced leveling Reduces cratering and provides faster spreading Lowers surface tension to improve cleaning efficiency REACH compliant Listed on TSCA inventory
Problems Solved
Slow spreading and poor wet out of surfaces due to high surface tension. Poor penetration of cleaning products due to high surface tension. Damage caused to surfaces due to a lack of oil repellency. Foaming that develops when mixing and applying paints and coatings.
Applications
In water-based floor care formulations including waxes, polishes and finishes, Capstone™ FS-65 can be added at 0.005-0.02% actives to dramatically improve wetting and leveling. Good re-wet characteristics for multi-coat applications are also achieved by adding Capstone™ FS-65.
The performance of concentrated cleaning solutions can be enhanced by the addition of 0.005-0.1% Capstone™ FS-65.
Capstone™ FS-65 is recommended to be added to water based paints and inks as 0.01-0.1% actives to improve wetting, leveling, and film consistency. The use of Capstone™ FS-65 in water-based inks and paints often eliminates the need for other additives such as defoamers and leveling agents providing manufacturers with a significant cost savings.
Capstone® fluorosurfactants & fluororepellents were some of the first short-chain alternatives commercialized so Chemours has lots of experience helping their customers reformulate.
Capstone™ fluorosurfactants and repellents were introduced as sustainable replacements that meet the goals of the U.S. EPA 2010/15 PFOA Stewardship Program. They are based on short-chain molecules that cannot break down to PFOA or PFOS in the environment.
