Capstone™ FS-64
Capstone™ FS-64 is a highly effective anionic fluorosurfactant that is used as wetting and leveling aid in water-based paints and coatings to improve wetting and leveling characteristics.
Capstone™ FS-64 is a VOC free, anionic fluorosurfactant. When used as an additive, Capstone™ FS-64 has the unique ability to drastically reduce the surface tension of water-based formulations. This reduction in surface tension makes Capstone™ FS-64 an ideal leveling and wetting agent for architectural coatings, floor care products, cleaning solutions, and industrial finishes. In comparison to traditional surfactants a much lower dose of Capstone™ FS-64 can be used to achieve the same or better performance. This gives formulators the ability to simplify formulations and reduce cost. Capstone™ FS-64 is commercially available as a 15% solids solution that can be easily diluted to working concentrations with water.
Note: All samples and purchases of Capstone for new projects and applications must first be evaluated for approval by ChemPoint and Chemours.

Features & Benefits
Anti-blocking Oil repellency Wetting and enhanced leveling Reduces cratering and provides faster spreading Lowers surface tension to improve cleaning efficiency Compatible with silicone additives REACH compliant Listed on TSCA inventory
Problems Solved
Blocking of architectural paints and coatings. Damage caused to surfaces due to a lack of oil repellency. Surface defects like cratering that are caused by poor leveling. High surface tension that prevents good wetting of surfaces.
Applications
The addition of 0.01-0.1% of Capstone™ FS-64 actives to water-based paint and coating formulations dramatically reduces surface tension and improves wetting and leveling. Additionally, cured latex films containing Capstone™ FS-64 exhibit improved anti-block and anti-soiling properties.
In cleaning solutions, the addition of 0.005-0.1% Capstone™ FS-64 improves the solutions ability to wet difficult soils to achieve cleanability.
Capstone™ FS-64 improves the wetting and spreadability of floor care products such as waxes, polishes, and finishes. The addition of Capstone™ to floor care formulations also improves re-wet characteristics in multi-coat applications. Suggested addition rates range from 0.005-0.02% actives.
Capstone® fluorosurfactants & fluororepellents were some of the first short-chain alternatives commercialized so Chemours has lots of experience helping their customers reformulate.
Capstone™ fluorosurfactants and repellents were introduced as sustainable replacements that meet the goals of the U.S. EPA 2010/15 PFOA Stewardship Program. They are based on short-chain molecules that cannot break down to PFOA or PFOS in the environment.
