Capstone™ FS-63
Capstone™ FS-63 is an anionic fluorosurfactant that is designed for use in water-based paints & coatings to improve wetting, leveling, anti-blocking, and dirt pick up resistance.
Capstone™ FS-63 is a water-soluble, anionic, fluorosurfactant used to decrease the surface tension of aqueous solution in order to improve wetting, leveling, and spreading. Capstone™ FS-63 is able to drastically reduce the surface tension of water-based formulations while producing minimal foam making it an ideal additive for architectural coatings. When used to replace other leveling and wetting additives, Capstone™ FS-63 typically provides a cost savings due to the low usage rates and the ability to eliminate defoamers. Capstone™ FS-63 is available commercially as a 35% solids solution and can be easily diluted to the desired working concentration with water.
Note: All samples and purchases of Capstone for new projects and applications must first be evaluated for approval by ChemPoint and Chemours.

Features & Benefits
Anti-blocking Oil repellency Dirt pick-up resistance Wetting and enhanced leveling Re-wet characteristics in multi-coat applications Reduces cratering and provides faster spreading Lowers surface tension to improve cleaning efficiency Reduced bath drag-out Very Low Foam REACH compliant Listed on TSCA inventory
Problems Solved
Aggressive tack of paint applied in architectural applications. Pinholes, cratering, and orange peel surface defects caused by high surface tension.
Applications
When used in low VOC architectural coatings at 0.02-0.04%, Capstone™ FS-63 improves wetting and leveling resulting a reduction in surface defects. Coating films containing Capstone™ FS-63 also show improved oil repellency and anti-blocking properties.
In water-based paints and floor finishes Capstone™ FS-63 is used to decrease surface defects like cratering, orange peel, and pinholes. Additionally, re-wet characteristics of the cured film are improved in multi-coat applications. Typical usage rates range from 0.02-0.05%
Capstone™ FS-63 can be used in metal cleaning applications to reduce bath drag-out and improve efficiency.
Capstone® fluorosurfactants & fluororepellents were some of the first short-chain alternatives commercialized so Chemours has lots of experience helping their customers reformulate.
Capstone™ fluorosurfactants and repellents were introduced as sustainable replacements that meet the goals of the U.S. EPA 2010/15 PFOA Stewardship Program. They are based on short-chain molecules that cannot break down to PFOA or PFOS in the environment.
