Capstone™ FS-51
Capstone™ FS-51 is an amine oxide-based amphoteric fluorosurfactant. It is used in industrial cleaning solutions to provide sustained foam and reduce surface tension of aqueous formulations.
Capstone™ FS-51 an amphoteric fluorosurfactant that is used as a foaming agent and to reduce surface tension of aqueous formulations. The reduction is surface tension provided by Capstone™ FS-51 combined with the sustained foam make it an ideal additive for industrial and institutional cleaners. Capstone™ FS-51 also allows for the formation of thin, low surface tension aqueous films. This makes it a useful additive in formulations that require defect -free films to be formed over low surface energy or contaminated substrates. Capstone™ FS-51 is available commercially as a 40% solids solution in water and ethanol packaged in pails, drums, and totes.
Note: All samples and purchases of Capstone for new projects and applications must first be evaluated for approval by ChemPoint and Chemours.

Features & Benefits
Reduces the surface tension of aqueous solutions Useful in providing sustained foam facilitates the formation of a thin low surface tension aqueous film Aids in creation of surface defect-free films over low surface tension Improves wetting, spreading, and leveling properties REACH compliant Listed on TSCA inventory
Problems Solved
High degree of work required to develop sustained foam in industrial and institutional products. Surface defects caused by high surface tension of aqueous formulations.
Applications
Capstone™ FS-51 is used in latex paints, alkyd emulsions, and floor care products to improve wetting and leveling to reduce the amount of surface defects like pinholes, cratering, and orange peel.
Capstone™ FS-51 is also used to provide sustained foam for industrial and institutional cleaning products. It will also help improve penetration and wetting of difficult soils.
Capstone® fluorosurfactants & fluororepellents were some of the first short-chain alternatives commercialized so Chemours has lots of experience helping their customers reformulate.
Capstone™ fluorosurfactants and repellents were introduced as sustainable replacements that meet the goals of the U.S. EPA 2010/15 PFOA Stewardship Program. They are based on short-chain molecules that cannot break down to PFOA or PFOS in the environment.
