Capstone™ FS-3100
Capstone™ FS-3100 is a 100% solids, nonionic fluorosurfactant. It is used as a wetting and leveling aid in water-based, solvent-based, and 100% solids coating, ink, and paint formulations.
Capstone™ FS-3100 is an APEO-free and VOC-free fluorosurfactant effective at very low rates (0.01%–0.10% active ingredient) to reduce the surface tension of a formulation greatly. This reduction in surface tension leads to improved wetting, leveling, and spreading of the formulation. Capstone™ FS-3100 is 100% solids and can be used in water-based, solvent-based, and reactive systems. FS-3100 is nonionic and stable in both acidic and alkaline pH. Thus, it is compatible with resins and additives of any ionic class and is easy to formulate into a variety of systems.
Capstone™ FS-3100 is a particularly effective surfactant in solvent-based paints, coatings, and inks. In these applications, FS-3100 improves wetting and leveling, reducing surface defects, such as pinholes, cratering, and orange peel. While excelling as a surfactant, FS-3100 also provides antiblocking properties and increases resistance to water and oils. When blended with other surfactants used in these formulations, FS-3100 reduces the total volume of surfactants required to lower surface tensions to desired levels.
Capstone™ FS-3100 is also used as a surfactant in liquid cleaners to improve the wetting and penetration into surfaces to better access soils and increase the overall performance of the cleaner. Typical use rates in cleaners are between 0.01% and 0.10% actives within the formulation.
Small amounts of Capstone™ FS-3100, typically 0.01%–0.05% actives, can be added to water-based floor care products like waxes and polishes to improve surface wetting, reduce surface defects, and improve rewet characteristics for multicoat applications.
Note: All samples and purchases of Capstone for new projects and applications must first be evaluated for approval by ChemPoint and Chemours.

Capstone® fluorosurfactants & fluororepellents were some of the first short-chain alternatives commercialized so Chemours has lots of experience helping their customers reformulate.
Capstone™ fluorosurfactants and repellents were introduced as sustainable replacements that meet the goals of the U.S. EPA 2010/15 PFOA Stewardship Program. They are based on short-chain molecules that cannot break down to PFOA or PFOS in the environment.
