Capstone™ FS-31

Capstone™ FS-31 is an APEO-free and VOC-free fluorosurfactant that dramatically reduces the surface tension of both water-based and solvent-based formulations. Because it is nonionic, Capstone™ FS-31 can be used with resins and additives of any ionic class. It is also stable in aggressive acidic or alkaline media. Since it is very stable and lowers surface tension at low usage rates, Capstone™ FS-31 is an ideal wetting and leveling additive for most formulations. This fluorosurfactant is commercially available as a 25% solids solution in both 55-gallon drums and 5-gallon pails.

The Capstone™ FS-31 fluorosurfactant can be used at very low rates, typically 0.01%–0.10%, to provide exceptionally low surface tension to both water-based and solvent-based formulations. In particular, Capstone™ FS-31 is a highly effective wetting agent in coating, paint, and ink formulations, where it can be added during the pigment grind phase for pigment wetting or during the let-down phase to boost wetting and leveling of the formulation. Like other Capstone™ grades, Capstone™ FS-31 reduces the total amount of additives required in formulations, such as other surfactants, defoamers, and antiblocking agents.

Capstone™ FS-31 can be used in cleaning solutions to increase surface wetting and pickup of difficult soils, improving overall cleaning performance. Typical usage rates for Capstone™ fluorosurfactants in cleaning solutions range from 0.01% to 0.10% actives. In floor care products, Capstone™ FS-31 can be added at 0.01%–0.05% actives to dramatically improve wetting and leveling in addition to better rewet characteristics and reduced cratering.
