Chemours Viton™ gums are fluoroelastomers that do not contain a curative. They can be cross-linked or cured with a diamine or bisphenol curative or a peroxide curative for the APA grades to obtain the final vulcanizate. Viton™ gums are most suitable for compounders with the necessary setup for curing or cross-linking processes.
Viton™ fluoroelastomer gums are classified as A, B, AL, and APA types based on the amount of fluorine in the polymer and the monomer composition. Higher levels of fluorine increase their resistance to solvents and other chemicals but reduce their low-temperature flexibility. Depending on the application, carefully selecting the base gum and curative combination gives the overall best properties of the final vulcanizate. Viton™ Fluoroelastomer A Type offers good low-temperature properties and various viscosity grades. Viton™ Fluoroelastomer B Type provides a good balance of solvent resistance and low-temperature properties. Viton™ Fluoroelastomer F Type offers the best high fluorine content and solvent resistance for sealing applications requiring permeation resistance to fuels. The specialty APA gums provide the best balance of low-temperature properties and solvent resistance.
Control over the curing process and specific properties of the cured fluoroelastomer compounds
Elastomers perform in extreme temperatures while retaining their mechanical properties
Limited resistance of traditional elastomers to oils or chemicals at elevated temperatures
Changes in the mechanical properties of elastomers at low and sub-zero temperatures
Decomposition or degradation of nonfluorinated elastomers when exposed to oils, fuels, acids, and harsh chemicals
Permeability of elastomeric compounds for use in transportation fuel applications
Dissolution of rubbers or elastomers by aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons
Low electrical properties or burning resistance of rubbers or elastomers
Availability or supply issues of FKM and fluorinated elastomers
Viton™ FKM fluoroelastomers provide electric vehicles with critical sealing, sensors, and high-voltage cable components that protect and maintain efficiency.
Viton™ fluoroelastomers offer high-quality performance capabilities for manufacturers of renewable energy solutions.
Fluoroelastomers for high voltage EV applications such as under-the-hood or charging cables that require high thermal stability.
