FASCAT® 2001 Catalyst
The FASCAT® 2001 catalyst, stannous oxalate, is a white to off-white solid powder used with the formation of esters from acids and alcohols.
FASCAT® 2001 is a solid catalyst used to expedite the formation of esters from acids and alcohols. It has the benefit of being readily removed from the reaction mixture once the reaction is complete. The FASCAT® 2001 catalyst provides advantages in multiple chemical manufacturing processes, including monomeric and polymeric plasticizers, synthetic lubricants, and fatty acid esters. It improves efficiency by reducing cycle times, minimizing the consumption of chemical reactants, and decreasing the production of byproducts. In addition, FASCAT® 2001 enhances the productivity and quality of the target ester product. This grade reduces the frequency of side reactions often seen when acid catalysts are used or when no catalyst is added to the formulation. This refers to the procedure of eliminating water from alcohols, leading to the creation of undesirable chemicals, such as alkenes, aldehydes, ketones, and ethers.
Specifications
Form: Solid powder Color: White to off-white CAS number: 814-94-8 Formula: Sn(O2CCO2) Sn %: 57.4 Molecular weight: 206.7 Melting point, °C: 280 with decomposition Specific gravity (@ 18°C): 3.56
Primary Chemistry: Stannous oxalate
Features & Benefits
Insoluble in water and most common organic solvents Slightly soluble in solutions of oxalic acid Shortens cycle times Reduces consumption of chemical reactants Reduces byproduct formation Increases product ester yield and purity Promotes full utilization of raw materials and produces esters with very low acid values Neutralization and washing are often unnecessary, and good quality product can be obtained by steam stripping and filtration Becomes soluble in the alcohol and acid reaction mixture at temperatures between 80° and 100°C Does not require extensive or rigorous handling conditions and can be charged at any point during the reaction Neutral and insoluble in the final ester product Resulting ester product can experience improved color, reduced odor, and low residual tin content
Problems Solved
Increased cycle times due to the catalyst quality End ester product lacks purity and experiences increased color
