Solus™ 2100
Solus™ 2100 is a low–molecular weight cellulose ester used as a film former and rheology control additive in high-solids and UV-curable coatings.
Eastman Solus™ 2100 is a performance additive designed to improve dry time, polishability, and hardness for low-VOC thermoset and thermoplastic coating systems. As the Solus™ 2100 additive has a relatively low molecular weight, it imparts minimal viscosity in solvent-based systems and reduces solvent demand. This makes Solus™ 2100 compatible with low-VOC systems.
Typically, low–molecular weight acrylic coating systems with low VOC have long dry times, are prone to sagging, and take a long time to develop sufficient hardness to polish. Adding Solus™ 2100 to these systems improves performance and efficiency by decreasing the dry-to-touch time and increasing the hardness to match that of a higher–molecular weight acrylic. Eastman Solus™ 2100 is soluble in acrylic monomers commonly used in UV-curable coatings, inks, and adhesives, including HDDA, TMPTA, and DGPDA. Thus, it is commonly used as an additive to improve the wetting and leveling of UV-curable formulations. Solus™ 2100 also helps prevent shrinkage due to rapid cross-linking during curing, leading to coatings and inks with fewer surface defects and adhesives with less adhesion failure.
