FASCAT® 2003 (stannous octoate, stannous 2-ethylhexanoate) is a food contact approved catalyst for producing oleochemicals, epoxy resins, RTV silicones, and flexible slabstock polyurethane.
FASCAT® 2003 has broad FDA approval as a catalyst for synthesizing oleochemicals and epoxy resins in resinous or polymeric coatings used in food packaging. This liquid grade additionally accelerates the silanol condensation processes that are utilized in the production of RTV silicone rubbers. The FASCAT® 2003 catalyst is frequently used in forming urethanes by the chemical reaction of isocyanates and polyols. It is adsorbed onto silica and employed in urethane powder coatings specifically designed for outdoor use. FASCAT® 2003 serves as a gelling catalyst for manufacturing flexible slabstock polyurethane foam.

Primary Chemistry: Stannous octoate, stannous 2-ethylhexanoate
High solubility in numerous organic solvents and rapidly disperses throughout ester systems
Approved by the FDA as a catalyst or cross-linking agent for curing epoxy resins in resinous or polymeric coatings used in food packaging, according to 21 CFR 175.300(b)(3)(viii)
Does not necessitate demanding or stringent handling conditions and can be charged at any stage throughout the reaction
Neutral and noncorrosive liquid catalyst
Utilized to enhance the rate of resin production and accelerate the process of cross-linking in diverse coating applications
Can be eliminated from the formulation once the reaction is finished
Resulting ester compounds will exhibit a low concentration of tin
Can reduce the loss of water from alcohols and prevent the production of unpleasant-smelling, color-forming aldehydes, ethers, and ketones when used in ester systems
Lack of FDA approval for food contact applications
Formulation requires the catalyst to be removed after the reaction completion
RTV silicone rubbers
Urethane powder coatings
Flexible slabstock polyurethane foam
Formation of esters from acids and alcohols
