Eastman TEP is a clear, colorless liquid used as a solvent in many industries and applications, including unsaturated polyester resin production.
Eastman TEP (triethyl phosphate, CAS No. 78-40-0, chemical formula C6H15O4P) is a process solvent that can also be used as a plasticizer for tough, fire-resistant plastics. Triethyl phosphate is commonly used as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals when preparing TEPP (tetraethyl pyrophosphate). Triethyl phosphate is also an effective viscosity reducer for unsaturated polyester resins for fiberglass-reinforced plastic, aliphatic polyester polyols for urethane foams, aromatic polyester polyols and sucrose-amine polyols for rigid urethane foams, and acrylic resins and saturated polyester resins for high-solids protective coatings. Triethyl phosphate is also used in the oil field industry as an oil extraction aid, and as an intermediate chemical in the manufacture of fracturing gels.

Effective viscosity reducer and flame retardant in unsaturated polyester resins
Enhanced flame resistance in ATH systems
Mild, pleasing odor
Clear, colorless liquid
Unmanageable polymer system viscosity and processing
Unsaturated resin safety concerns with inferior flame resistance
Resin intermediates - Used as a viscosity reducer and flame retardant
Oil field drilling chemicals - TEP is used in the manufacturing of oil and gas well fracturing agents known as fracturing gels
Oil extraction aid - Used as a stimulant for deep wells (most US production)
Polyester production - Used in the production of PET, evidently as a catalyst
Silicate glass production - Used to incorporate phosphorous into silicate glass
The incorporation of triethyl phosphate in fiberglass-reinforced plastic enhances the composite's performance, safety, and workability. Learn more!
