Eastek™ 1100 is an aqueous dispersion of AQ™ 55S water-dispersible sulfopolyester resin. It is used as a film former and binder in coatings, overprint varnishes, pigment dispersions, and printing inks.
Eastman's Eastek™ 1100 is a 30% solids, aqueous sulfopolyester resin dispersion with a glass transition temperature of 55°C. Eastek™ 1100 is the equivalent of Eastman's AQ™ 55S water-dispersible sulfopolyester resin in terms of physical and chemical properties, except Eastek™ 1100 is offered as a ready-to-use aqueous sulfopolyester dispersion.
Eastek™ 1100 consists of small anionic sulfopolyester particles stabilized in an aqueous dispersion without the need for surfactants, amines, or cosolvents. It has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 55°C and forms rigid, low-tack films ideal for a variety of coating and ink applications. When applied as a film, Eastek™ 1100 quickly and easily coalesces and dries rapidly to form clear thermoplastic films with a high level of gloss on various substrates. This is owing to the sulfopolyester particles of Eastek™ 1100 being much smaller than those in polymer latexes, for example.
Eastek™ 1100 provides excellent adhesion to common packaging films, making it an ideal sulfopolyester binding resin and film former for printing inks and overprint varnishes applied to flexible packaging. This adhesion property also makes it an excellent film former for coatings and primers used in packaging applications.
Heat seal coatings may also be made using Eastek™ 1100, where tack-free films can be formed onto packaging layers that can be rewound and subsequently heat sealed to other films when exposed to high heat. Eastek™ 1100 also penetrates wood surfaces and serves as an effective nonyellowing primer for wood coatings.
