The global demand for innovative packaging plastic technology continues to rise with the increased consumption. COVID-19 drastically reshaped the packaging industry with new trends from increased consumer demands centered around expedited convenience in their packaged goods.
As market demand for convenient, safe, and hygienic features rises, polymer performance additives are crucial a piece of technology that allows packaging manufacturers to remain agile and aligned with changing consumer preferences. SI Group's polymer additives protect various plastic systems and resins from overall polymer degradation and allow them to maintain surface integrity over their lifetime.
What Are Plastic Additives?
Plastic additives are any organic or inorganic material added to an organic-based polymer that can stabilize or modify the properties of the polymer material. SI Group specializes in plastic performance additives that stabilize through radical management and protect against degradation during the reaction process caused by energy, UV Light, heat, and radiation.

Antioxidants and Heat Stabilizers
Antioxidants inhibit and slow down the oxidative degradation of the polymer material by preventing the propagation steps of oxidation. Antioxidants are classified as either primary or secondary antioxidants, depending on avoiding oxidation. Primary and secondary antioxidants provide thermal stability to protect against oxidative polymer degradation, consisting of two separate steps. The first step is oxidation which is the reaction of the polymer with oxygen, and the second is degradation which causes chain scission or cross-linking. Stability can be achieved through radical management with the application of antioxidant solutions for polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) packaging applications:
