TEXTURECEL™ 40000 PA
TEXTURECEL™ 40000 PA is a high-purity sodium carboxymethyl cellulose powder used as a binder and an additive in coating, adhesive, and ceramic applications.
TEXTURECEL™ 40000 PA is a high molecular weight sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) polymer. It is a highly pure cellulose ether powder well suited as a binder in sensitive applications. When added to water at 1%, it will produce a solution with 4,000–5,000 cPs viscosity. When used in ceramic slurries, TEXTURECEL™ 40000 PA improves the green strength of ceramic parts prior to firing. It also works as a lubricant during extrusion and lowers the stress on extrusion equipment. TEXTURECEL™ 40000 PA is also an ideal additive for thickening and shear-thinning rheology for water-based coating and adhesive applications. In addition, TEXTURECEL™ 40000 PA is an excellent binder in anodes for lithium-ion batteries, where it increases mechanical integrity, improves adhesion to current collectors, and optimizes the dispersion of active material.
Specifications
Viscosity (Brookfield, LVT, SP.3, 30 RPM, 0.5% dry basis aqueous solution, 25°C): 4,000–5,000 cPs Degree of substitution: 0.82–0.95 pH value (1% aqueous solution): 6.5–8.5 Total salt content (dry basis, max): 0.50
Primary Chemistry: Sodium carboxymethylcellulose
Features & Benefits
Anionic Water soluble at any temperature High surface tension, forms less foam Excellent viscosifier Facilitates reversible viscosity decrease upon heating Stable in a wide pH range from 3.5 to 12 Compatible with nearly all other hydrocolloids No odor and no taste Forms films resistant to fats, oils, and organic solvents
Problems Solved
Poor battery life caused by impurities in the anode binder material Incompatibility with other hydrocolloid thickeners Deformation of water-based adhesives and coatings when applied to overhead and vertical surfaces Use of rheology modifiers and thickeners that are not based on renewable resources like cellulose
Applications
Aerospace Architectural Automotive Ceramics Corrugated boxes Glues Industrial Machinery and appliances Packaging Paper and consumables Sealants Tapes Textiles Wood glues Adjuvants Agriculture drift Fertilizer additives
